§. 5. Das folgende Exempel ist sonderbar, und die Begleitung davon kann Gelegenheit zu vielen Fehlern geben. Bey der ersten  wird die Terz nicht aufgelöset, sondern sie bleibet liegen, und wird in der Folge zur Quarte, weil diese wie durchgehend angesehen wird; die übermäßige Quarte aber geht regelmäßig in die Höhe. Bey der zweyten ist das Verfahren so, wie es seyn soll. Damit keine Ziffer bey der ersten Signatur  fehle, und diese übermäßige Quarte gehörig in die Höhe gehen könne; so nimmt man zu dieser  die Secunde doppelt:

§5. The following example is odd, and its accompaniment can give rise to many errors. In the first chord, the third is not resolved, but remains held, subsequently becoming a fourth, because this is understood as passing; the augmented fourth, however, ascends properly. The second is treated correctly. In order that no interval is lacking in the first figure of , and this augmented fourth can ascend correctly by step, one doubles the second in this :
